This is the day, dear Lord, when you were lifted away from us. This is the day when our eyes turn toward the heavens, searching for some trace of you, gazing at the sun and the stars and the clouds, wondering when you will return. But don’t let me gaze to long at things not meant for this moment. Bring my attention back to this earth where I can search out your face in the face of my neighbors. Bring my attention back to the things you have put before me, to the opportunities you are giving me to be your hands and feet, to the moments you offer me to be your disciple. Don’t let me search the sky too long, Lord, when I can still see the evidence of your presence all around me. Amen.
