Let Me Burn

Thanks to John Wesley, one of my frequent prayers is simply:

Dear Lord, let me burn…

I’m sure that if someone could hear when I utter those five little words, they’d think I was nuts.  They would probably think that I had finally cracked under the pressures of ministry and needed to be committed…  but it is the most honest prayer I can pray.

I do want to burn.

I want to burn with the fire of enthusiasm that only the Holy Spirit can bring.
I want to burn with desire for God’s will.
I want to burn with determination to see God’s justice be done.
I want to burn with hope and love and faith.
I want to burn with excitement and willingness to be the hands and feet of Christ.
I want to burn with eagerness to do what God has set before me.

So… Dear Lord…

Let me burn.
