Liturgy Inspired by Adam Hamilton’s “Enough”: Chapter 3

CALL TO WORSHIP:
Who needs pots of gold when the leaves of autumn are hues of the most perfect gold?
We need only the God who has painted the canvas of fall!
Who needs lottery tickets and wistful dreams of riches beyond comprehension?
We have been given all that we need. Let us find contentment in this moment!
Let us worship the God of all creation!
We will worship the God of all Good things!

OPENING PRAYER:
The world is full of good things. From the snowy mountain peaks to the lowest valleys, lush with green trees and fields, You have given us more than we will ever need. Be with us as we join our hearts in worship and teach us in this holy hour to be satisfied with You and all that You have given us. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
God has given us the blue sky above us, the snow-peaked mountains in the distance, the sage-filled deserts stretching out around us, the cool waters flowing through the rivers and the canals.
Forgive us for our complaints.
God has given us the air to breathe, the firmness of the earth beneath our feet, the ethereal heavens stretching above our heads, filling our souls with dreams and visions.
Forgive us for not being satisfied.
God has been generous with love and mercy. When we were faithless, God was faithful.
Forgive us for our lack of gratitude.
Let us turn our hearts to our creator God. Let us confess our sins before the one who can fill the emptiness and make us full.

(Silent Prayer)

WORDS OF ASSURANCE:
When we were faithless, God was faithful. When we turned away, God became flesh and blood and came to us. When we were so consumed by sin and greed and desire that we couldn’t recognize the salvation being offered, our Savior was raised up on a cross for all the world to see. Through the love, the mercy, the grace, and the compassion of Jesus Christ, we have been forgiven. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING:
Almighty God, creator of the universe and all the abundance therein, we offer thee gifts to you with gracious hearts, overjoyed at the reminder of the good things you have offered us. May these gifts be blessed to be a blessing to the world around us. May we never forget the endless supply of your love. May we be generous enough to share that love with all we encounter. Amen.

BENEDICTION
Jesus has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”
(~Hebrews 13:5-6)
